Trick or Truth? Skincare myths you shouldn’t fall for

In celebration of Halloween, let’s have fun and debunk some common skin care myths- no more tricks here, we’re treating you with the truth!

1. People with oily skin shouldn’t use facial oils

TRICK: “I have oily skin, why would I put oil on my face?”  Applying an oil on your skin will actually help balance the natural oils your skin is, or isn’t producing, to add hydration and help repair the barrier that keeps the moisture locked in. Often, oily skin is over-producing oil because it has a lack of proper hydration. Facial oils benefit all skin! We recommend trying this lightweight oil in your daily routine:  Cinq Mondes Purifying Precious Elixir. Just 2-3 drops daily can be used as a serum, or added directly into your moisturizer as a treatment booster.

2. It's not possible to over exfoliate your skin

TRICK: It is definitely possible to over-exfoliate your skin. If you exfoliate every day, this would cause irritation and strip your skin of its natural oils, resulting in skin issues you may not have experienced before. Exfoliating is a necessary step in caring for your skin, but should never exceed 1-3x per week- depending on your skin type. It is important to pay attention to how your skin responds to the frequency. For example, sensitive skin may opt away from a manual (grainy) exfoliant and choose to use a more gentle AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) exfoliant such as the Elemental Herbology Skin Resurfacing Multi-Acid Pads.

3. Washing your face ‘too much’ causes irritation

TRUTH:  Over-washing your skin is possible and it can strip the skin of its natural oils causing dryness, irritations and sensitivity. Stick to washing twice daily, every morning and evening. We recommend starting the day with an SLS-FREE, oil-balancing cleanser such as the Elemental Herbology Cool & Clear and finishing the day with the make-up melting, velvety-soft Flowers Cleansing Balm from Cinq Mondes

4. I don’t have crow’s feet yet, so I do not need an eye cream

TRICK: It's never too early to start using an eye cream, even if you are not showing visible signs of aging around your eye contours. A morning and night application of an eye cream is your armor to delay, and minimize the formation of lines and wrinkles. Be proactive with the Resveratrol Eye Concentrate from reveel by MedSkin Solutions, formulated with 2% Resveratrol (from Japanese Knotweed) to neutralize free radicals and harmful environmental influences, such as blue-light and UV rays known to damage and age the skin.

5. Skin is affected by the seasons

TRUTH: As the seasons change, so should our skincare routines. The change in temperature, UV, humidity, etc all affect how our skin looks, feels and behaves and it is important to be in tune with your skin to recognize and respond to how it's changing. For example, as we are moving into colder months, now is the right time to update your moisturizer to something more nurturing or add an extra dose of Hyaluronic Acid to boost moisture levels. We recommend an easy daily solution for a microbiome-balancing, instant shot of moisture- try the Cinq Mondes Pre+Probiotic Hydration Serum
